What Does that Check Engine Light Mean?

Remember the days when you could drive down the road blissfully ignorant as to what was going on under your car’s hood?  That wasn’t a better situation…just a different one.  These days the check engine light MAY mean bigger trouble is on the way.  However, there are times when it does not.  Either way, don’t ignore it!

Here are some reasons why that dreaded light may be on in your car –

1.  Your oxygen sensor may need replacing.  It measures unburned oxygen in your exhaust.
2.  The catalytic converter may need to be replaced.
3.  Spark plugs and wires have worn out.
4.  The mass air flow sensor has gone bad.
5.  You’ll love this one…the gas cap is loose or actually missing!

We hope that it is merely the last one.  If so, that is a DIY job.  For anything else please bring your German car to us if the check engine light is on.  We are The German Car Shoppe.  For many years we have been just what our name indicates…the home for German auto repair in the Denver area.  Call (303) 798-2287 or come into 5115 Santa Fe Drive in Littleton.
