Karl Benz (the legend) manufactured the first German
“Motorwagen” in 1885. It looked like the
proverbial horseless carriage. It also
happened to be the first motor car in the world. That first model actually crashed later that
year during a public demonstration.
Thank goodness, today’s German cars have a much greater shelf-life!
By the time the new century rolled around Germany was
producing about 900 cars a year…not exactly assembly line speed at this
point. It was not until 1926 that
Daimler-Benz was formed from Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz. BMW was actually founded in 1916, but did not
produce any vehicles until 1928.
We have come a long way, haven’t we? Today about 6 million cars are produced each
year and a similar number roll off the lines in other countries by German
Brands. We at the German Car Shoppe are
proud to be the Denver area’s home for German Auto Repair. From all of us to all of you Frohliche
Weihnachten and Merry Christmas.
