It’s called the common-rail fuel injection system. As it pertains to diesel engines, it features
a high-pressure fuel rail which feeds the solenoid valves. This is in opposition to the low-pressure
pump feeding unit injectors. Late model
common rail diesels now feature piezoelectric injectors for greater
precision.
High pressure injection delivers power and fuel consumption
benefits over earlier lower pressure fuel injection, by injecting fuel as a
larger number of smaller droplets, giving a much higher ratio of surface area
to volume. This combines atmospheric oxygen with vaporized fuel delivering more
complete combustion.
Sounds complicated…doesn’t it? What is more intricate is keeping your finely
tuned German vehicle on the road by having the tools and expertise to repair
fuel injection systems. Here at The
German Car Shoppe in Littleton we have just what it takes to keep your car
running smoothly on the roads around Denver.
